Welcome to the 11th DHAA Inc National Symposium!

Proud Principle Sponsor

The Dental Hygienists’ Association of Australia Inc (DHAA Inc) will be holding its annual Symposium at the Crown complex on Friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th of November 2013 in Perth WA, with an additional opportunity for further CPD points on Thursday the 14th.  The conference is an important part of the Association's professional development programme and aims to bring Dental Hygienists, Oral Health Therapists and Dental Therapists together so they can have firsthand access to current research, initiatives and systemic direction of Dental Hygiene. We would love to thank Colgate for their prinicple sponsorship.

The theme for the 2013 conference is:  "Back to the Future - Exploring the Possibilities".

DHAA Inc. represents Dental Hygienists and those Oral Health Therapists engaged in the delivery of preventive oral health services. Our role is the maintenance of good oral health and the prevention of avoidable disease.

Though working within a team approach to dentistry, Dental Hygienists can provide their services in a range of settings without a dentist on site. The potential is vast. Our services could be offered in public and community health settings, home care and outreach facilities, hospitals, correctional services, aged care and residential facilities, government offices, rural and remote areas, research, forensic laboratories, primary health care clinics, schools, colleges and universities, and within the private sector.

DHAA Inc. emphasises that the delivery of oral health services should be a team approach and in a structured relationship with allied health practitioners with flexibility to improve consumer access to these preventive services.  We are committed to a team approach to dentistry.  Our goal is to improve access to preventive dental care.

Traditional approaches are evolving internationally, resulting in the emergence of innovative workforce models which utilise all members of the dental team. The model we develop in Australia should encourage the development of these innovative workforce models to ensure consumers have access to the highest quality of services by all registered oral health professionals. This should be continually reviewed so that the model may continue to evolve, integrating and expanding the role of preventive oral health practitioners, dental hygienists, oral health therapists and dental therapists

DHAA explore innovative, effective and exciting ways of providing dental care in the community to vulnerable groups of people who would not be likely to initiate a dental visit unless the service comes to them.

For these projects to succeed more widely, it is essential that the Dental Hygienist, Oral Health Therapist and Dental Therapist are recognised as providing of high quality and safe services within their scope of practice and that their skills are integral to the team dentistry approach
